EAST COAST OF ZANZIBAR HOTELS   ::   KONOKONO HOTEL.
Konokono Beach Resort is located on the Michamvi Peninsula, on the South East Coast of Zanzibar - one of the most authentic and secluded places on the island - and overlooks the wonderful Chwaka Bay. Several kilometres of white pristine beach face Konokono. The resort is a quiet paradise offering privacy and tranquillity in the heart of nature. In this quiet surrounding you will find all the modern luxuries such as a beach bar, restaurant, pool and spa which were designed with your comfort in mind.

There are three different villa types at Kono Kono: sea view, garden view and family villas. All of these categories have the exact same amenities. air conditioning, fans, mini bar, and safe, LCD TV, tea and coffee facilities and most importantly a plunge pool! The villas are all huge - 135m2; of which 85m2 is internal and the private garden and plunge pool make up the remaining 50m2. The design and layout of the villas does however differ slightly between the older and newer villas.

The 11 villas closest to the beach are the older villas. They have beige stone floors, dark wood beams and authentic furniture. They are extremely spacious and bright, and despite being open plan they still feel very cosy. The four sea view villas are all in this style and have fantastic views over the bay - they also get a lovely sunset which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own deck chair, beside the private plunge pool.

Seven of the 18 garden view villas are old villas and are therefore in the same style as described above, the only difference being that they have a garden view rather than a sea view; the other 11 villas (nearest reception) are all newly built. They all have lovely views of the garden and the thick foliage keeps each villa separated and private. These new villas are just as spacious and bright as the old ones, but they have been decorated and designed with a modern Italian influence and feel less authentic than the older villas as a result. The floors are identical to the main area (wooden laminate) and the furniture is simple, square and plain. One of the few interesting features in the new villas is a Swahili style chest; however these are also found in the old villas. Despite being the same size as the old villas, the new villas utilise the space very differently, with walls dividing the bedroom from the lounge and bathroom area. The rooms are spacious and comfortable but they also lack a degree of character.

There are two family villas at Kono Kono that can sleep up to four people. Both of these family villas are newly built, have garden views and are similar to the new garden villas in most respects. The only difference is that there are two twin beds as well as a double in the family villas.
